Enables production and product-oriented companies to gain quick, actionable insights into the carbon footprint of individual products.
SAP Product Footprint Management for Clean Operations is a standalone, easy-to-integrate and sustainable cloud solution that enables small and medium-sized enterprises to quickly, easily and actionable determine their carbon footprint at the product level.
The technical basis is the SAP Business Technology Platform, which enables regular calculations of product footprints to be carried out on a large scale and over the entire product life cycle. Companies can exchange the information on the environmental impact of their products with their business partners and use it for internal product and process optimisation. This new SAP product is embedded in SAP's "Chasing Zero" strategy to create a sustainable future with zero emissions, zero waste and zero inequality.
Since Feature Pack 2208, the connection of the solution to SAP Business One has been realised. The calculation of emissions data is based on the replication of master and transaction data from SAP Business One.
SAP Product Footprint Management for Clean Operations provides companies with fast, actionable insights into the carbon footprint of individual products:
The connection between SAP Product Footprint Management for Clean Operations and SAP Business One is made via the Integration Framework. Right after your license is activated, you can start the data replication in the Integration with SAP Product Footprint Management for Clean Operations window in SAP Business One. After a few steps you will have access to the relevant functions. This includes managing the carbon footprint, modelling energy flows and calculating and analysing emissions.

Products & Industries:
SAP Carbon Footprint Management for Clean Operations can be used for a wide range of products and industries:
In order to assess the environmental impact of collected business data and goods movements and calculate large-scale footprints, this data must be linked to emission factors. SAP Product Footprint Management for Clean Operations offers the possibility to import emission factors via templates from own life cycle assessments (LCA) as well as from external LCA content providers.
These emission factors are usually developed and updated by international organisations such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) or by national governments. These providers offer scientifically sound LCA data with assessments of the environmental impacts of thousands of products and materials. For more information on these databases, see Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
Once the business data and the relevant emission factors have been collected, the basis for calculating the Footprint is laid. SAP Product Footprint Management supports you in calculating the emissions of your products on a large scale. A preconfigured calculation template is available to you for this purpose. Within this template, you have the option of defining the products that you want to include in the calculation, for example by product group, plant and calculation period.
The products are then linked to the emission factors from the LCI database to enable a bottom-up footprint calculation. The allocation is done via prefabricated templates of corresponding allocation tables. In this way, the best possible match of company data and emission factors is achieved based on material, supplier, country and material number. This simplified yet flexible configuration, enables comprehensive coverage of the product portfolio and shortens the time to value creation.
The calculation of the footprint can be performed for the configured time period if required. In addition, delta calculations from a previous iteration of the run as well as test runs can be triggered to validate the calculated Footprints and analyse calculation problems.
Footprint results are displayed per unit and as a total value, and are broken down at different levels of granularity, e.g. by supplier of the purchased materials. In addition, a monthly average value is automatically calculated.
In summary, the advantages of SAP Footprint Management are as follows:
Reversing climate change is on the agenda of many companies, who are beginning to consider the economic, social and environmental impacts of climate change when evaluating their business and making business decisions. For this reason, SAP will continue to consistently develop Carbon Product Footprint Management for Clean Operations, taking into account customer feedback and its vision.
